Trick for getting spinning strut nut off???

Hey, has anyone figured out a handy way to do this. I’m trying to cram my monkey wrench in there while using the other hand to hold the wrench with the hex key on it. It’s not going well.

I don’t have air tools and I don’t know anyone who does.

Hopefully this is the old strut? Lock vice grips around the shaft through the spring.

what is that? You are trying to undo the top strut nut? One that locks bearing plate to the strut shaft? It either should have a hex recess in it’s center, or is shaped like a nut or has 2 shaved sides allowing you to lock a vise grip on it or channel locks. So you put a well fitting box wrench over the nut and then a suitable tool onto the shaft end to lock it in place.
But yes, I had vise grips locked onto the shaft itself too. Except that it ruins the shaft and it MUST be well polished and smooth. Not that you care should you be replacing it anyway.

I have done this on a few cars with it spinning like that but I would not recommend this as it is quite dangerous but I have left the strut in the car with a jack underneath the wishbone and taken the strut nut off and slow lowered the wishbone down to take the strut out.
