Yesterday, I posted a question about the clashing when I shift into second gear on my ’95 Cavalier (Isuzu transmission).
Today while diagnosing the problem, I started having problems getting into reverse. I finally got it into reverse and then into first a few times and then all of a sudden, my car is stuck in some forward gear.
Moving the shift lever – regardless if the clutch is in or if the engine is on – is now very difficult and has a very limited range of movement.
The cables appear to be in working order – I can move the shift lever by moving the transmission’s connection via the cables. I took apart the center console and everything is in order there.
Clutch fluid is fine. Transmission fluid is still at the mid mark and clear as the day I put it in 14K miles ago – when I put a new Exedy clutch pack in.
I’m thinking that not only do I have worn synchros, but I may have bent or broken a fork. The transmission doesn’t make any noises or anything.
The car is 21 years old and has 203K miles on it and it’s a Chevy Cavalier – not a ’63 Corvette.
I’m thinking to just cut my losses – both financial and labor (I can’t get parts anyways) – and just go for a used car from CarMax or something.
UNLESS – it’s some really stupid easy thing that I’m missing.
Thoughts, anyone?
Thank you.
