I have a 1995 for escort with a 1.9 4 cylinder engine. Recently I have noticed a “slipping” problem with my trans. Everytime I go from park to drive and go to take off I hardly move for a few seconds then it will “catch” and drive like normal. Almost feels like I have no first gear. I also noticed that the trans says it is a reman from either mazda or suzuki, can’t remember which one it was. I am just wondering what the problem may be?

It does sound like it might be an internal transmission problem. About all you can do is check the fluid level and condition. If the level is good then you could try changing it but to be honest it sounds like the damage might already be done. That said you may need to replace the transmission in the end. If you have it rebuilt be sure to take it somewhere that has a transmission dyno to check the work after they finish.
