I’ve got a 1995 Lexus ES300 and the trans calls for Dextron II.Though Dextron III is the replacement for Dectron II ( I would assume).
I was wondering of all the trans fluids out there ,including full synthetic, which is the best trans fluid to use in such an old, high mileage vehicle of 215,000 miles?

The best fuild you can put in your transmission no matter if it has 1 miles or 500,000 miles is what the manufacture recommends. Sometimes manuf. say is ok to use other brand but just as temporally solution. So I would just buy it from the dealer they usually less than 5 dollar a quart.

+1^ I agree with elgiro 15. Stick with what the manufacturer recommends you put in there, as later it can have effects on the way your transmission shifts.

That’s the most logical way to deal with most car issues. Find out from the manufacturer what is needed and do it.

Yes, It calls for Dextron II. No longer made. So in goes Dextron III….but now Toyota has IV.
Do you stop at Dextron III or move up to IV ?
Was just wondering if a new developed trans fluid always superceeds the one that came before it.

dexron III. I don’t think using full synthetic at this
stage of the game would be worth the money.Put in a brand
of your choice.change it every 30k and you should be good to
                  go.

I’d say go with Dextron III or IV. I wouldn’t invest in synthetic at that mileage.
