So I’ve been wanting to change my transmission fluid, but my mechanic and a few others have told me it’s a bad idea. I have a 1995 Honda Accord LX 2.2L Manual Transmission, and I bought the car used at 150,000 miles. It’s now at 200,000 miles and I don’t know when or if the transmission fluid has ever been changed. People keep saying if I flush and replace the fluid now it will knock old debris/build-up loose and mess up the transmission. Is that true? Should I at least check the fluid level and add more to top it off at the fill plug? I feel like if I do not nothing about it then my transmission will inevitably go bad sooner than later.
