Transmission filter

Hi. I have a 1999 Civic LX. I read about some people putting an aftermarket transmission filter setup in the oil cooler return line. Is this a good idea? I was also reading about transmission fluid change on ETCG here:

installing an after market transmission filter would not
be recommended. A transmission fluid change is always recommended
at the proper service interval. only using genuine Honda transmission
fluid.;)

My read was a secondary filter in the return line. Not sure as to the need, but as long as the correct filter is in the transmission, it wouldn’t hurt anything..

I am going to continue see if I can find more information about this.

It seems like a waste of time to me. If the vehicle needed it, the engineers would have made efforts to install one.

The Civic transmissions weren’t a problem in my experience like the V6 transmissions were. That said I don’t think you NEED an extra filter if you change the fluid with Honda fluid on a regular basis but if it helps you sleep at night then by all means go for it. Just make sure you install it correctly for best results.
