So its a 90 Sierra 4.3 Auto. Its making a whining noise. However it only does it in a gear (R, O/D,D, etc.). But in P/N it completely stops?

So here’s my question… Doesn’t the pump make the noise at all times? So at that point I should be able to rule it out right?

So then I’m left with a possible clogged filter… I did a trans flush in November (but put maybe 3k on it since) on a truck with 334K on it (it runs strong considering). But it did sit for about 2-3 months while i performed lots of other work on it… Motor/steering/suspension related though so i domt susect that to be the issue. So… Wouldn’t I be able to rule out the filter? Or could something have clogged it or messed with it?

      So…my guess….. Is it my torque converter?… I hate automatics x(

Sounds like typical torque converter failure. Problem is when they fail the tend to compromise the pump with debris. And with that kind of mileage it more than likely is damaged also. Overhaul or replacement with a reman or used unit is about your only options. Good luck. Let us know how things turn out.
