      Hello all.
The car will start, turn over, stay running for half a minute and die. I checked for codes and the reader said “none”. No check engine light. The car drove fine then died like it had no gas. Had to have it towed home. 🙁

I cleaned the Mass airflow sensor and throttle body and poured some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. It won’t stay running long enough for it to work I think. I then tried to unplug the fuel pump fuse. It didn’t run at all that time. Any ideas?

Ensure you have fuel in it (may want to add a couple of gallons just to be sure)… GM vehicles of this vintage were known to have fuel gauge sending unit issues… (My stepmothers vehicle ran out of gas on the way to my Dad’s funeral…..Still showed 1/4 tank full… Dad got the last laugh I guess…)

If that doesn’t work, I recommend putting a fuel pressure gauge on it and check your pressure…

          Alright

I put fuel in the car but found out something else. When I started it today I “feathered” the throttle and got to review up. It back fired a little then died. Then I noticed, when I do give it gas it dies but if I let it be the computer keeps it running a bit. Is that clue to anything?

Could be many things, unfortunately I don’t have enough info…

            Here are a few suggestions…

When was the Catalytic converter replaced (if ever)… Possible exhaust restriction. Eric has a video on this….

Fuel pump or fuel restriction… Fuel filter or weak fuel pump… Best checked with fuel pressure gauge.

Cam/Crank or some other sensor or electrical issue (coil)… Best to inspect with a scan tool to see what the ECM is being told when the engine is running….
