Hi folks, so…my dad found an ’04 Kia Rio RS 1.6 (automatic)for $500, and the gal who owned it said there were some tranny issues: she was told by a “mechanic” that it needed a new tranny. Her dad admitted he overfilled the tranny fluid, and that he also may not have used the right fluid. In researching the Rio, I saw that in many cases there might be a simple reason it was running in “safe-mode”. The car only has 125k on the odo, so I figure it’s not a hooped tranny, just a loopy solenoid or something. We had the tranny properly flushed, but it’s still limping. Gonna take it to a tranny specialist, but in the event the tranny
IS done in, what’s the most economical course of action for getting this thing back on the road?
My dad wonders (as it’s a Mazda engine) if there’s a Mazda tranny that will fit in the Rio (Mazda parts are cheap and plentiful around here, in the wreckers).
Thanks,
Jon.
