First I’am new here and wanna say Hi to motor head/wrench slingin here and give alittle back ground about my self. I started working on auto or anything with a motor around 14yr helping dad work on car and semi’s like handing wrenches .Now I’am 29 and now dads lost because of these new senors and computers lol. He tells me of the days when there was points and how to set in the dizzy and when you could pull a motor out of them old mopars with a hand full of wrenches head swaps ect. Now I work on everything he has and all my family members cars and other peoples cars lawn mowers even weed whackers lol you never know what you’ll get. I need some tips, you remember the old saying never change your tranny fuild and filter your tranny will go out I feel IT”S BS! I have changed every filter fuild and in every car/truck I own when I buy it and every year for service and every time I can notice improvement. I have even ran seafoam tranny cleaner in some that didn’t shift to smooth and then go to wally world by the cheapest trans fuild for it ,remove tranny cooler inlet line to rad and flush it(homemade flush) dirty job lol. And it works on most tranys or I just swap it with a good one. I have also removed valve bodies and cleaned them, the first time doing that was scary but my dodge wouldn’t shift so what was I going to hurt lol after cleaning the valve bodie and putting it all back together it fixed it and is still going 2 years later. I have a problem I been trying to figure out/fix or how do I fix it or what to replace.HERE we go and now with the problam now days you get rubber gasket with your filter kit not the corks anymore for your tranny.I do not have a trouqe wrench that goes to that low of INCH pounds Snap on wants $279 for a 10-50 in pound Torque Wrench yes I would love to have it but it would be used very little most tings such as therostat gasket/plenum gasket I do by hand it’s all in the wrist if there is a pattern to tighting I use it tho. Now my ft pound Torque Wrench gets used alot.I am very clean I use brake and parts cleaner and clean the complete pan and tranny mating surface and wear rubber gloves. One thing even tho I use a rubber gasket that come with the tranny kit I use peratex ultra black only on one surface ,the pan and put a dab of ultra black in each bolt hole and reinstall but snice I do not have a Torque Wrench that goes that low in pounds. I start all bolts by hand then I use a 1/4 drive rachet and slowly get all bolts in little by little just to wear the bolts feel some what tight but now over tight and once thats done I recheck all. I DO NOT give one bolt hell and just do it to all the other bolts like that I use my wrist to even it out the best I can. I then let the ultra black dry before adding fuild . Here’s the thing some seal great no small leaks such as my van I never have to add fuild but my old 86 Ford it leaks alittle have to add fuild looks like it’s dripping off the bolt head on the pan. I am very clean and wear rubber gloves I everything with brake cleaner or carb cleaner to clean the whole pan and the mounting surface.
Is the Fix I need to spend out the cash I don’t have right now for a in pound Torque Wrench. When it comes to Torque Wrenchs cheap is not a option I feel.Is the pan warped? I don’t kno what I’am doing wrong? anyhelp
Thanks
Awsome board
