Hey guys! I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place here as I’m building my very first car and as a 16 year old, money really hard to come by. I’m trying to figure out which kind of body kit I’m gonna fit on my car. The choices I’ve narroweed it down to are ChargeSpeed, Bomex, and Do-Luck. Any suggestions? My car is a 1994 Toyota Supra. :D. My car’s pic is attached.

It’s a very nice car, but your logic escapes me. If you don’t have much money, why do you want to spend what you have on a body kit that won’t accomplish anything for the performance of the car? Body kits aren’t cheap to begin with, and then all the parts have to be painted and professionally fitted for it to look good in the end. The only thing a body kit can do it make it look better, and even if it’s fitted perfectly, it still de-values the car (as do all modifications). The car looks beautiful on the outside, and it’s a classic sports car. If you want to spend money on bodywork, invest in addressing and preventing underbody rust. If you don’t crash it, rust is the only other way that car will ever truly die. A rust-free underbody doesn’t impress the Paul Walker Jr’s at the parking lot meets, but it does impress the kind of car guys who are worth impressing.

I know it sounds like I’m being negative, but I’m just tying to offer you a realistic and practical perspective on this. I have extensive experience with 20-30 year old and modified cars, and I’m not against either of them. I’ve just grown wise having my life revolve around modifying or repairing cars for the last 15 years, and I’d hate to see such a nice car get fruitlessly drilled full of holes and covered with various glues, paint, and body fillers (especially if it’s not done properly).

This is a very old, terrible quality video, but I thought I’d share it because it was the first truly inspirational Supra I ever saw when I was a kid. A car that’s “earned” a reason to have a body kit on it:

I thank you for your concern for the financial advice on the car but being the person I am, I see that if I’m going to own my cars, I’m going to put my personal touches on my car. Plus, there’s the fact that I’m financially set for college and stuff like that and with the money left over, I want to put it in my car. As a true car lover, I believe that I will never let go of my first car and if I could have my way, I probably wouldn’t buy another one until i start a family. With the fact that I’m not going to sell the car, the resale on the car is irrelevant. Plus, I have all the tools and supplies I need for underbody rust prevention at my disposal as my uncle owns his own body shop and has told e he would gladly lend me anything body-wise if I asked. I was just wondering what would look the most practical on the car. I’m also doing turbos and engine mods also which I was wondering if you could help me out on also. 😀

All very good things to hear, sounds like you’ve got a good plan. I looked at these body kits of yours (just google image search) and for what it’s worth, I like the Do-Luck way better than the other two. It’s aggressive and sleek at the same time, with great airflow into the cooling package. It is definitely the most practical looking one as well. The other two, it’s hard to put it into words, but kind of obnoxiously lumpy in spots? The weird looking protrusions they have don’t seem to make any good lines. I chucked a little about half the pics of the Bomex are of the Fast and Furious car. See those first two will get people to look and keep them staring at it, because they’re trying to understand all be bizarre shapes. The Do-Luck will make people look at it because it’s nice.

Here’s another vintage Supra video for you:

It’s Swedish rally car drivers driving cars that are owned by guys in the street racing scene there, who had to essentially compete to offer their cars for this film. They run a planned and rehearsed course using radio communications, with guys out there keeping the intersections they were blowing thru clear for their safety, and have a scout helicopter following them and watching over everything. The other GIS videos are the same way.

I understand that you want to put your own personal touches on the car, but think long and hard before you put that body kit on the Supra. Many people thought that they never would sell their cars, but you know what? Life happens. I wanted to keep my 1986 Audi Quattro 4000 forever. It was a unique car, and it was fun to drive but I finally found myself in a situation where I had to get rid of it.

The main reason I’m saying this is because the car you have is now a collectors item. A well preserved supra is a highly sought after commodity and it is shooting up in value fast. From you picture it looks as though your Supra is very clean and in original condition. That is more unique today than a Supra with a body kit on it, and it will stand out more in stock form, I guarantee it. I understand that you want to put your own personal touch on your car, and ultimately it is YOUR vehicle and you can do anything that you want to it. I’m here to ask you to NOT destroy what you have. It’s a rare car, there are not many in as good of condition as yours, and it’s only going to get more valuable as time goes by, how many cars can you say that about?

Please, please don’t put that body kit on that car. You’re going to ruin its value, and you’re going to defile a valuable piece of history. There weren’t very many made, and there are certainly not many in the stock configuration.

Another vote to not mess up the car with a ricer body kit. Spend your time and money sorting out the suspension and renewing 20 year old bushings and brakes,

Curious that you use a picture from a Bring a Trailer ad from 2012.

                    Calling BS on this.

Because it’s the closest thing I had to an actual picture of the car. I’ll take one today and put it on the post. How bout that 😀
