I have a 1987 Toyota MR2 that idles fine, but when you push the throttle the revs drop like it’s going to stall (except it doesn’t), and the engine vibrates badly until you release the throttle. I haven’t tried driving it like this, so I have no idea if it will even move. The only thing I’ve checked so far is the catalytic converter, and it’s clean inside. Any thoughts?

well i don’t know the procedure for getting codes for this car if you can…

i can think of quite a few things that can cause this issue some diagnostic codes can narrow things down, give everything a visual inspection any wires broken anything un plugged, do a fuel pressure test maybe when you open the throttle up fuel pressure is low and engine runs lean coughs out.

        try this too.

Sounds like it might have a MAF sensor issue. It may not be the sensor but there may be a hole in the tube that goes form the sensor to the throttle body. If that’s the case, the engine will not run properly. The article posted above has more specifics on solving issues like this. Read through it and see if there’s anything that can help you in addition to what we’ve posted here.

Keep us updated on what you find.
