If it’s the factory coolant, it’s probably red. Toyota brand coolant is bright red. My Rav4 is due for a coolant drain and fill, and I’m going to use a name brand ethylene glycol (green) coolant instead of forking out $20 a bottle for Toyota red.
Just don’t mix coolant types/colors, do a good flush and pick whatever you like.
On my 2000 Echo I’ve been using Zerex Asian. It’s a pinkish/magenta color depending on the light. It’s 13.99 versus Toyota’s $30. Seems like pretty good stuff.
I use the green Prestone. I get it for less than $5 an gallon for full strength, never had problems with it. Just make sure you mix it at 50/50 (distilled water/coolant)
Yup, you can use the green stuff if you flush the system but I would not mix different color coolants.
Don’t mix coolants, I believe what should be in there is red however if it’s brown someone may have already mixed it on you and if that’s the case I would recommend flushing out the old and putting in either red or green, it’s your choice at that point just make sure you don’t mix different colored coolants is the take away here.
