Toyota 4runner alarm system problem

Hi everyone,

I have a 1996 Toyota 4runner sr5 with an alarm system problem. I unlocked the driver door and then unlocked the rest of the doors,I opened the back door and the alarm went off. I put the key in the ignition and tried starting it and it didn’t click or even turn over but I have power in the radio,dash,wipers and windows. Would the alarm system not make it start? I’d like to turn off the security system all together,how do I do that? Is the security system draining my battery?Anyone run into this same issue?

Is this a factory alarm or aftermarket?

Yes, the alarm can cut off the starter/fuel pump/ignition if it’s armed.

+1, is it a factory alarm or an aftermarket one? It is important to know that information. If it’s aftermarket, remove it. I’ve seen nothing but problems with them. Mostly due to poor installation. If it’s factory, then I’d suggest tracking down some service information from the factory manual. That will be your best source of information for a problem like this.
