I have rusted wheels (guess a common thing for steel wheels) and i also have rust on the driver side door sill. I want to just buy a can of some spray paint (Silver for the door sill and hubcabs) and black for the wheels. Since it is just plain house spray paint and not automotive paint can i just spray it on top of the existing rust or do i have to sand first. How will will normal silver spray paint match to a Poly Silver Matalic that my car is painted with?

when my ex painted his car, he & I used sandpaper to even the surface & make a clean surface. With the rust I would even & get it smooth before painting, other wise ur going see all the imperfections. I’m not sure if the spray paint will match. U can get the match paint at the auto store. hope this helps. U might want to use a clear coat to seal the paint. Good luck.

I have rust in a few spots my self. What you will really need to do is get a drinder and grind it to the bare metal. Then primer it, followed by the actual paint that came with the car, then do a clear coat.

dont really care for the imperfections only way the rust is seen is by opening the door so i dont really care to smooth it out

at least sanding it down will do it. Or there really is no point in fixing it…

not wanting to “fix” it just want to cover it cuz looking at it every time the door is open is annoying i am anal like that. Just wanna make it silver dont care if it dont match the paint just dont wanna see rust.
