depends what you are working on and how much torque you need to apply.
i only own a 1/2 craftsman torque wrench which i use on lug nuts, balls joints, some axle nuts, and other things i can’t think of at the moment.
Axle nuts and axle pinions require a pretty high torque that a sears torque wrench will not go up to. however if it is for minor odds and ends, you can’t go wrong with it.
Lots of torque wrenches, but I am not the pro when it comes to choosing them. Hope that helps.
Get a beam type first. It is cheaper and just as accurate as the clicker type. It also does not need routine calibration – Beam type calibration is verifying the needle is pointing at 0 (and adjusting if not) where as for clicker type you would have to send it in for calibration. My Craftsman clicker torque wrench started to skip tooth after 2 years and start to give inaccurate results after 5 years use and I am not a professional. I would need to send this out for calibration and repair, but I only use this for installing the and it is accurate enough for that. Also the clicker type is inaccurate for upper and lower range. My craftsman torque wrench has range of 28-250 ft/lb and realistically I cannot accurately torque anything below 60 ft/lb.
