TORQUE CONVERTER ?

      im doing a 4.3l v6 to 5.7l v8 swap in my 1992 chevy 1500 is the v6 torque converter the same as a v8 torque converter ?

        According to this the numbers are different so I would say no the converter would
        be different. Also bigger engine bigger converter.

          +1 what college man said. Another variable for torque converters is stall speed. Engine/trans combinations require a certain converter stall speed. You must use the correct converter so that the fluid dynamics, stall speed, and computer controlled lockup all work properly or you will have performance issues, heat management issues, and the potential for transmission damage.

            It is a different torque converter. Stall speed as cap269 mentioned is also a concern. A V8 will have a much different stall speed than a V6. Too loose and you get heat issues, too tight and you won’t be able to get into the powerband when you need to and you may have sluggish acceleration.

            EDIT: Also, an improper converter can set knock sensors off and further contribute to lack of power. This is due to the change in rotating mass. Usually this will occur when the converter is too small in diameter.
