I’ve been using the tools that I’ve reviewed for a while now and I thought I would revisit them to see if my opinions of them had changed. Here are the results.

The gear wrenches that I have don’t have the ratchet ‘switch’. Simply, one way loosens and flip it over and that side tightens. As you said, for them to change whilst using them would be a paaaain.

Those are real handy… The only danger with them is getting them stuck on the fastener… I.E. you unbolt the bolt so far that you can’t get you wrench out and the bolt isn’t ready to come out and the wrench can only turn one way :(… Rare but it does happen..

This pic shows an extreme example… whoever did this should have used an open end… Have seen them get stuck in more open areas where the bolt was longer than anticipated…

I agree that gearwrench type ratcheting wrenches are useful, but that a person can paint oneself into a corner with the the flip-over-to-reverse ones. But, anymore, I only buy the flex head kind that hinges. When the fastener is in a tight enough position where I want a ratcheting wrench, I’ve learned that I usually need a flex head ratcheting wrench.

Tough question if I’m honest. And also a question that might do better in the ‘Tools’ thread. I’m sure several people will weigh in on it there.
