I’ve heard from several people that HF storage boxes are pretty good quality, especially for the money. The one I would avoid is the Sears ‘basic storage’ line of boxes – even though they may come with ball bearing slides, the stuff is pretty shabby. The other stuff Sears has is pretty good, especially the Professional series.

Haha – You and ME both! Luckily I’m just using it to store stuff I don’t use often, but it’s still just one step up from cardboard.

I got mine from Home Depot and it’s pretty decent. On Black Friday it was about half off. $150 for the checs and rollaway.

I guess it’s practically a rite of passage. I moved a couple years back and packed my Craftsman rollaway in the trailer with all the tools still inside. When I got to my new home the spotwelds (if they even deserve to be called that) holding the drawer slides in place broke so all the drawers were falling down.

My one Craftsman professional box held up pretty well though.

I’ve got 4 Craftsmen (5 drawer with bottom flip up compartment) roller cabinets and one top box with fold down cover attached to the top front to hide the 12 drawers. Got them years ago when they were made to last. They survived a move 15 years ago only problem I had was that some of the tools got shifted and kept some of the drawers from opening but that was easily fixed. Just a PITA though.

One of my first ones was the Craftsman (Sears) 100th anniversary edition chest and top box (at least 25+ years ago, no ball bearing slides or any of that stuff) that is still my workhorse today and the drawers still glide like new regardless of being overloaded over the years. They sure don’t build them like they used to, I wish I had bought 3.

All my boxes are from Craftsman – oldest one is 11 years old not a single problem. My second tool box is also from Craftsman (4 drawer) – I have been using it for 2 years and no problem so far. I use them just for storage – all my daily stuff is on a rolling cart, also from Craftsman – had it for 6 years – Not a single problem.

Ditto on the old Craftsman non-ball bearing boxes. I have a pair that I got in the early 1990’s and they’ve never skipped a beat. Been through three moves and get used almost daily and work as good as the day I got ’em.

I was looking at some of the new stuff from International the other day. You can get a KILLER deal on Amazon for the 54″ box in red (top and bottom), but I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about the shipping and I’ve also heard that the casters are held in with wood screws. I expect that kind of quality with Chinese boxes, but these are supposedly made in Canada.

I’ll wait until I hit the lotto and then I’ll just get a Snap-On like everyone else. C:P
