Key word CAN. This doesn’t mean always, or will. Just means in special cases it will top $100K as simple as that.

In the field i work in most mechanics make $80 to $100k a year, field guys with overtime can make $150 to $200K a year.

I know most official shops etc price out labour at around 100 US per hour BEFORE sales tax. While some of the smaller “backyard” mechanics price it out at around 50+ US or so.

So in some cases you might be able to make 100k US here if you are lucky or good at what you do. But at the same point our cost of living is also most likely much higher then in the US

This reminds me of what an operator said to me about a year ago while i was working in Yellowknife. Shop rates for HET was 150$ an hour, field truck rates were 200-300 an hour. A lot of people went up to Yellowknife with a service truck and worked on small to large piece of equipment making between $150K to $400K a year working months straight with mega long hours(12-16+ hours) and only having to work 6 month.
It’s not easy, Yellowknife is in the middle of no where, during spring and fall its a fly in only city. It gets cold as fuck (-30*C to -50*C). It can be dark out all day, or light out all day depending on the time of year.

IF you can do ANY job on any car (surely it takes years to get there, you know), IF with having said all that you mostly working on the same cars doing the same jobs, IF you happened to live in area where there are less techs then jobs, IF you remind yourself every minute at work that you are not in car repair business but in money making business, IF you have two lifts and enough jobs coming in to keep you busy all day long and do not waste a single minute, concentrate on the job and nothing else, do not take a brake to have a snack or smoke or even piss (unless you definitely have to), IF you managed to build good relationships with service writers, IF you had enough nerve to say your boss that you a not here to volunteer but you are here to make money – then MAYBE you’ll make 100K a year.
So far so good, I am living in the middle of nowhere, having 6 month long winter, nothing to do here but work, done all those IFs from list above and looks like I’ll make 100K if nothing bad happens.

You can make 100k at a dealership. I am an MDT for Toyota, granted I dont run the most hours, due to the cars I get, but you can still make money.

Will most people hit that number…no, not really. But it is possible.
