Ok so I got a guy offering to trade a 1977 Se – bandit trans am. 403
The car needs paint but the body is clean and straight – needs trans work.

Issue. Is the guy claims he doesnt have the title – but he has paper work showing the title is clean of liens…. Ok I can buy that.
What worriers me is when I asked what it was gonna coast him to title 42 he said 50$ – Ok come on even if you hated the 77 trans and and coulden stand smoky and the bandit – and knowing the car is in need of some work – 50$s is cheap for a title…
When I asked him why he has not filed a title 42 he said he hasnt had the money…

Idk I can understand that reason but come on – its a trans am…

Anyway what do you guys think… Any of yall ever filed a title 42???

I would walk away. Trying to get a title for a vehicle is a pain and not worth it, particularly if the vehicle is stolen or the old owner comes looking for it.

I filed an Oklahoma Title 42 some years back but I think the process has changed a bit. It wasn’t that bad and you can certainly get a clean OK title if you follow the instructions.
Any Oklahoma vehicle registration agent can provide the papers and instruction sheet for doing this but it does take some weeks as you have to jump through some hoops and make sure everything is done to the letter.

I’m also pretty sure it will cost more than 50 bucks to do this because I think they require that an ad be placed in the local paper and so on.

Unless the process has changed, one used to only have to post a completed form in 3 separate public places (bulletin board in the post office or courthouse, etc, etc) with the form listing details on the vehicle, VIN, etc and a public sale date for storage fees, mechanic work, etc being listed.
The usual process was to inflate that amount and discourage anyone from showing up to bid on it.

You might drop by a tag agent and chat with them about it.
