I have been doing some research, but have yet to come up with a conclusive answer.
I plan to drive my Bonneville for one more winter or maybe two and would like to buy some good winter tires. That being said, I would like to be able to use them after the Bonneville retires. Her replacement will be a Grand Prix. I’m trying to determine a tire size which would be compatible with both vehicles.
Currently, the tires on the Bonneville are 235/55-R17 and the tires on the Grand Prix are 225/60-R16. I plan to get a new set of steel rims, so the rim size could be either 16 or 17. What would be a good size for winter tires that I could use with either vehicle?

If you look in your owners manual under wheels it should tell
you what other wheels will fit. I would upgrade the grand prix

Agree that if you keep the wheels you should stick with 17 inch and use 235 55 17 tires.Bear in mind that the diameters of the 2 tires quoted are different with the 225 60 16 tire being a little smaller……….

14 mm (2%) shorter.With the larger diameter tire on the Grand Prix, the speedo reading will under read your true speed by 2%.
Tire Rack has a nice feature where, when searching for tires, you may either choose the OEM tire size or alternate sizes that will fit your vehicle. From what I’ve seen the tire sizes they propose do fit.
The “tool” from Tire Rack listed the 225/60-R16 as an optional size for the Bonneville. This is the OE size for the Grand Prix. I plan to talk to a couple of guys at local shops for more opinions because I know little about changing tires sizes, but I think I will go this route.
I plan to buy a used set of steel rims anyways, so when the Bonnie is done, they can easily be transferred to the Grand Prix.
Sounds like a solid plan. Tire rack is a good resource, I’ve used it a few times myself. I’ve also bought quite a few tires from them and have never had issues. It seems like this issue is resolved but I’ll just add this video into the mix because I feel it falls well into the topic.
