I have a little 12 volt compressor for airing tires. It has clips that attach to the battery. It works just fine and I’ve had it for several years. I bought it at Costco for $30, maybe $35. If you shop for something like this, check the amp rating for the cigarette lighter type versus the type that clips to the batt.
An adequate compressor will draw greater amperage and the lighter will not be up to supplying it, in my opinion.

            Quoted From polite4:

I’ve seen these little tire inflaters that are plugged into the cigarette lighter. I’ve read they will overheat if used over like 10 min or so. I would like to use it to top off my tires to keep them properly inflated. Does anyone know how effective they are?

            Thank you

I have air compressor at home but when I am too lazy to fire this up, I use a good quality high volume bike pump. I know some people think this is too slow, but I do this regularly and by the time I do this my tires are off by 1 – 2 PSI which takes only 5 – 10 pumps per tire.

I use a bicycle pump as well. Simple and it works.

Polite: Pardon me, but did I read your comment correctly? You over inflate your tires in winter? Why? Personally, I deflate mine 3-5 PSI from OEM spec. Only reason is traction.

I would be using it to keep the tires inflated properly to get better gas mileage. They go down in the cold weather and sometimes it’s hard to find a gas station with a air hose.

Just transfer the air in your tires over to Nitrogen and you will reduce the pressure change that takes place, either daily or even by season. It also help keep tire pressure more accurate, you will only loose a pound or two every four to five months. Additionally, if you have TPMS, it will help extend they live of the expensive sensors. You can read more about it at… Premier Nitrogen . com . It is our site for selling machines, but you can read all the tech to better understand the reason for doing it. Hope this helps… Gary

I use a 12 volt Black and Decker that I bought at a B&D outlet store in Myrtle Beach, SC. Uses regular electricity or your cigarette lighter. I have not had any problems with it.

BTW, you should not need to run it for 10 minutes to top off your tires. Only takes a minute or so if you are down just a few PSI.
