Curious if any of you have installed hidden cameras in your vehicles or anything that have helped catch thieves who break in and steal radios etc

My gf’s Camry was broken into last night for her radio as well as her neighbor in the same parking lot. Really gets my blood boiling

No, nothing like that, just car alarms with pagers and GPS tracking.
Usually video is setup outside the vehicle to see who/what is around the vehicle, and maybe catch their license plate number.
I have the older Viper 5706V with LCD 2-way pager (1-mile range). They have even fancier versions, and you can add various sensors, modules, backup battery, and such. These usually need to be professionally installed as they come with minimal instructions and may need to be programmed for some of the options.

Car alarms don’t work, most people ignore them and I seen this on a TV show.A gun is choice if caught in the act.A customer of my dad’s is this way,has guns all around his house and thieves won’t come out alive shot dead.

Yeah, cameras are largely good for prosecution rather than apprehension. I do IT work for a restaurant chain, I get to go fetch the surveillance footage for the cops/media every time one of the shops gets robbed (which is fairly frequent, especially around the holidays). We’ve never received a tip off from surveillance footage. But, on the other hand, a cop occasionally recognizes the perp – We had one guy break into a shop and literally rip the safe from the floor (protip: if you’re installing a safe, use all four bolt holes. Otherwise, you can just rock it back and forth until the bottom snaps out.) Soon as we pulled up the footage, one of the cops knew exactly who it was. Like 451Mopar said, cameras will do best on the outside. Hard to get a decent wide angle inside a car. You’d probably just get a good shot of the crook’s ear.

I can see the commercials for the class-action lawsuit now, but I really like onyx’s seat tazer idea.

You could also get one of those flame-thrower theft deterrent devices they sell in South Africa:

I always though a good blast of chlorine gas would do the trick and not mess up the car, unless the thief vomits all over it.

My wife was loading groceries into the passenger side of her car when a man walked up between the rows and opened the drivers door to jump in. Too bad he forgot to check the back seat for our very protective German Shepherd. He took a chunk out of his arm and the guy ran off screaming. She called the cops to make a report and they were looking for this guy for snatching purses. They found him in the ER getting stitches

Nice. I’m thinking of setting up one of those smoke bombs that you activate by pulling a string. Hook one end to the door and another somewhere slightly under the dash so when the door opens it pulls the string activating it.

Might be a little tedious to do every night but I’m sure that’d freak out an unsuspecting thief.

What if I post an anonymous ad on Craigslist warning people about recent theft and make something up like there have been multiple security cameras that caught them in action and I’m working with the police so if anyone encounters something suspicious to get in touch with a description of the person for comparison with the surveillance footage.

Think it’d hinder whoever is doing it? I mean never know who’s reading those posts word might get back to them and instill some fear

But it will mess up your car… chlorine is a very corrosive gas… will cause the car to rust and bleach the car tho… it would be funny … Reactions of chlorine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDIx_TyPeeU

Definitely look up gun laws before even trying this approach. I live in Texas so I know the importance of guns and using them to protect your home and property (yes it is legal to use deadly force in last resort situations for property) remember though certain criteria need to be met for you to use such methods. Stay safe
