On my 1997 Grand Prix, my wiper blades would park at the incorrect position(all the way up). The blades have a full range of travel, they just park at the incorrect spot while coming to a rest position near the bottom of the windshield. My friend told me the wiper blade motor was to blame so i went out and got a new one. After replacing the wiper blade motor on my car, and the problem not being fixed, i asked a certified GM technician what the problem was. He said the transmission was out of time and replacing the motor wont help at all. Well, since im broke and im not about to go to a dealership or a mechanic since i have my own tools, im going to do it myself. Just need to know how to do it. The “for dummies” version would be most helpful.

I am not sure if that vehicle has the wipers that draw farther down when the wipers are off or not but the problem is one of two things. Either the bracket that connects to the wiper motor from the wiper transmission was installed upside down or the indexing lug was not set into the correct location when the new motor was installed. The directions that should have come with the replacement motor are hard to understand but the important thing to get aligned is the lug must catch the indexing arm at the correct alignment to get the wipers to draw down into the off position.
