timing belt tentioner

      im doing the timing belt on my mk2 escort 2L (pinto) the timing belt does not come with tentioner do i need to worry about the tentioner seizing and how would i test the condition

        You can test it to see if you can manually move the tensioner plug back (by pushing on it with your finger or hand)… You should not be able to move it whatsoever by just using your hands. It should have to be reset by a press or vise…. That is about the only DIY test there is.

        The reason you replace the tensioner is for preventative maintenance…The one already on the engine could last another 100,000 miles or 500 miles… You just don’t know. Since you already have everything apart, it is just good sense to replace all the moving parts of a timing system when replacing the belt (especially for an interference engine).

          its not the spring tention im worried about its the bearing in the pully

            You replace the pulleys for the same reasons as I have stated above… If the bearings seize, you are in for a bad day.

                Thats just good practice when the timing belt gets
                done.So does the tensioner.
