      2005 Honda Odyssey EX

I’m researching the whatnots involved with the onerous task of replacing the timing belt (etc.) in my Odyssey. Within the ‘2005 Honda Odyssey Service Manual’ under ‘Timing Belt Installation’ I found the following:

On 2003-04 Accord and all 2005 models, perform Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Reset Procedure and Crankshaft Position (CKP) Pattern Learn Procedure.” which is immediately followed the “Reset Procedures” section that details both procedures using a “Honda PGM Tester or HDS“. (I’ll post this entire section on request.)

The thing is, I’ve watched a handful of video tutorials about replacing the timing belt on Honda engines–none cover either of these “reset procedures” as a requisite step of the job. Furthermore, there is no mention of these procedures within the same section of the ‘2000 Honda Accord Service Manual’ (I gotta replace the timing belt on that car also… bleh).

      Soooo…
How critical are these reset procedures for the ’05 Odyssey engine? Do the Honda techs do them at the dealership? I lack the electronic tools necessary to send the specific reset commands to the PCM–is this something I should request the dealership do after I replace the timing belt?

      Thoughts? Comments?

If you disconnect the negative cable all systems should reset.
You should be good to go.
