      Hello!
Is timing belt replacement for an interference engine something a DIYer can do ( It is my first time ). My car is still new but I asked the question because the replacement cost at the dealer was a surprise ( super expensive ). I’m afraid of damaging the engine.I have the service manual.I can buy the special tools if needed. My car is mitsu pajero 3.8 ( montero in the US )

Do you advice me to do it myself.

        Those things are a pain.
Something like 80% of engines are interference engines.
You could definitely do it yourself, but this is a hell of an engine to do your first timing belt on.
Ask around and see if you know anyone who is gonna do the timing belt on a Honda, Toyota, or Vovlo. These are the simplest timing belts that I know of. Doing a belt on one of these will help you get the fundamentals down.
If you do try this timing belt yourself, make sure you have alternate transportation. Don’t expect that you’ll be able to do it (your first time) in just a couple hours.
