time to rebuild

I have a Mitsubishi 420A engine in my ride with 212K miles and still rolling. These engines are of course not known for this longevity. What will indicate that it’s time to rebuild this engine or replace it with a rebuilt one?

I would check compression. if compression is not good then
engine swap.

when you start burning oil, blue smoke coming out the tail pipe, or rough running engine. then you’ll check compression and notice that 1 or maybe 2 cylinders are below all the rest.

then you’ll know it’s time.
