Tikking sound

Hi everyone!

I just replaced the head gasket due to a coolant leak issue. The first time I started the engine right after this job, the engine starts to make this ticking sound as if someone is tikking a coin against any window. Could perhaps any one explain me how come ? If more info or details is needed, please just ask me!

It sounds like its a valve train issue. Do you have hydraulic lifters or flat tappet and what vehicle are you working on?

Did you torque everything down to correct specs and put the lifters, rods and so forth in the same location you took them from that being cylinder 1 as an example?

If you have hydraulic lifters, they will sound a little from the beginning.

First clip, you can hear the engine tick

Second video, the engine runs smooth again, after 20 min, you can hear the last ticking goes away.
Now, a half year later, engine is still silent.

Hi guys, thanks for the respond. The gap between the rocker arm and the camshaft was ok, but when I did the valve clearance adjustments I didnt tightened the bolts hard enough, so they got loosen again and made that noise. So meantime I adjusted the valve clearances and tightened the bolts as it should be, no tiking sound anymore<, Car has no hydraulic lifters<; It s a Daihatsu Charade FROM 1982
