I just replaced the serpentine belt and idler pulley on my 1997 Ford Explorer 5.0 It has some slack to it but not enough that it slips off. It starts and runs just fine with no noises at all for the few minutes I just had it running. My question is, how tight should the serpentine belt be? I just want to make sure it’s not going to break or something down the road because it’s on too tight.

If its a serpentine belt. Then it should have a belt
tensioner which is self adjusting. unless its worn out.

It does have a belt tensioner and it is smooth when it’s running so everything’s good. I didn’t know if I had to measure for deflection in the belt or whatnot. Thank you college man!
