Throttle body/iac valve

So I recently got a 2003 Honda Civic si hatch (EP3) and I wanted to clean out the throttle body because of the poor performance it was giving me with rpms being low and car almost turning off. So I wen and bought throttle body cleaner and I cleaned it fully, including the iac valve. One thing I did and don’t thiink was a good idea was cleaning the actual sensor on the iac valve…I put throttle body cleaner on a q-tip and cleaned the inside of the iac valve insert where the connector goes.
Now my idle surges from 2500rpms to 3000rpms, up and down.
Tried cleaning throttle body 3 times and nothing seems to change now.
Is it possible that I damaged the insert of the iac valve with the q-tip and throttle body cleaner?

Try removing the negative cable for 10 minutes and then reinstall.
Start the car with all loads off and let idle until the cooling fan comes on.
This resets and relearns the computer.

Well I’ve had the negative off the whole time I was cleaning throttle body. I reinstall to battery right after everything is connected then I turn car on right away…
What do you mean by all loads off?

And another thing, I don’t think my fans turn on…what’s the easiest way to check for that?

No ac, headlights anything that uses major power power. If you let it idle and the temp is running
normal the cooling fan will need to cycle.

              Ok so I’ll do that.
let the car run like that for awhile then correct?

So I disconnected negative on battery for 10 min and reinstalled and still getting the same idle issue. My check engine light also went on.
                Any suggestions?

I had the same problem, but now I am having issues with vacuum leaks around the iacv on my 1999 civic after replacing it.

Anyway, first thing you do is identify the code. Then go from there. Check for vacuum leaks first. Fix any leaks you find. If none, then disconnect the iacv. Engine rpm’s should increase. If not, there could be an issue with the iacv valve. Find a wiring diagram and check the resistance of the terminals on the iacv.

From what I understand, moving the throttle plate in any way other than the accelerator will invalidate the computer’s throttle position calibration. So it will need to be “relearned.” There appears to be a lot of folklore out there on how to do this, but just disconnecting the battery negative cable never seems to work.

I found two things on this:

                    and

The term you may want to research is “TPS calibration.”

I would read any codes and then post. This will give us a direction.
If you stop by an auto part store they will read it for free.
