Throttle body cleaning / Rough idle

So…if I am one of the ones that removed their throttle body to clean it and have idle problems now, what should I do? Have the ECU reflashed? What does that entail and where do I do that? My car is a 92 Accord EX Coupe, 5 speed. I have tried everything from replacing all the vacuum lines, testing the IAC, FIT, Starting Valve, battery and alternator are all good. The car has a new fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve, spark plugs, wires, O2 sensor, coil, distributor, coolant temp sensor (All OEM parts). I cleaned the EGR valve and pulled the EGR plugs to clean out the intake and also pulled all the injectors and cleaned them. I also bled the coolant, all the usual fixes including adjusting the throttle cable and verifying it is not too tight. I properly readjusted the base idle in accordance with manual. The fuel pressure, oil pressure and compression are all within spec. (have not checked the coolant pressure yet)

Here is another hopefully helpful piece of info: After I experienced this problem, the car threw a code 14 for the IAC valve, so I went through the troubleshooting for that code and came down to replace the ECU…well, I sent the ECU off to a reman company who told me my ECU was “fried” and that they would send me a reman one. I got the ECU back and put it in my car and it did not solve the problem so I immediately believe I was taken by this company. I then tried a junk yard IAC valve and that did not change anything.

The problem I have is only upon cold starting especially in weather below 50 degrees. It will start but when I take off and push in the clutch the idle will drop to almost zero and almost die. Once the car is up to operating temp at any air temperature the car runs and idles like a champ. Just a cold starting problem and I wonder now if it was related to my throttle body cleaning, can anyone provide any advice? Thanks.

Honda PCM’s of that vintage cannot be ‘reflashed’. Furthermore, it’s very rare to have a Honda PCM problem. The article College Man posted has a very detailed write up on solving Honda idle issues. I suggest you read through it to see if the information within it can be helpful to you.
