I lust cleaned the throttle on my 2000 honda accord 4 cyl now it surges at idle between 1000 and 2300 rpms in neutral. does anyone know what is causing this? if the car is in drive, it will shift into second without the accelorator being pressed. i do not know what is causing this. maybe some overspray into the MAP or IAC sensors? what could be causing this?

this issue set off a check engine light but seems to have self corrected as it now idles fine i guess it was some cleaner or dirt but now the car idles properly.

          Hi outdoorsman310,

Usually the vehicle’s computer has to “re-learn” itself when the throttle body is cleaned up (especially if it was dirty to begin with). A nice clean throttle body will allow more air to come through, based on the previous “dirty” and “clogged” conditions that existed before. Sounds like your vehicle is operating better and as it should. I know, it scared the heck out of me after I cleaned my Dad’s ’86 Buick Park Ave. throttle body. It revved like there was no tomorrow after a thorough cleaning. But, it just needed time and everything settle back down.

Thanks for the post. Looks like you closed out your own issue. Great! Keep us posted on anything else that crops up.

thanks for the replies. i think the check engine light was caused by the air fuel mix while the car was idling it seemed to run rich for a few seconds and started shaking. i think thats what caused it but now it runs great
