There should be clamps to remove the ducting for the TB. The high pressure switch
would be on the high side of the ac. follow the high side line to locate the switch.
I don’t If you can change it with system pressure on it?

Thanks for the reply I looked at the throttle body for about a half hour yesterday I can get the hose of the that attached to the air filter but the throttle body is under what I think they call a resonator there is a metal clip on it but there is stuff in the way can’t see the screw to loosen it and on the high pressure switch is the high side the same side you would add freon I think I might be able to fix that on my own I looked at it the switch is up by the left top side of the radiator has wires going to the compressor

I have worked on those engines a few times and I don’t recall anything difficult about getting that piece off the throttle body… Perhaps use a screwdriver to try to push and rotate the clamp to a more accessible location…maybe a little spray lube may help with rotating it as well…

Also, In this situation, a picture is worth 1000 words…

Thanks for your reply I will take pictures I’m a average mechanic I will try again Friday evening I’m having a hesitation problem so I wanted to clean the throttle body the car has 186,000 miles it hasn’t been clean since it was new I’m hoping putting new plugs and wires might help the hesitation problem if that don’t help what should I replace next the mpg is bad

If wires, plugs and a cleaning don’t help then put the car on a scanner and check the loop status and fuel trims… Also, don’t forget about the air filter as well..

also you can’t replace the high side pressure sensor without discharging the refrigerant in the system (if there is any).

I’m guessing this is a correct picture of your engine:

The box in the front there is the resonator. There should be a hose clamp holding onto the throttle body inlet. You’ll need to get a screwdriver or socket in there to loosen it. I don’t believe you can actually turn the clamp though because of rubber “dimples” that stick up through the clamp. Although it SHOULD be situated so that it’s easy enough to get to with a screwdriver.

be careful not to damage your MAF sensor when you’re removing the resonator.

that said, I would think that you would be throwing some kind of code if you’re getting hesitation. Post your codes so that we might help properly diagnose the issue. You might not have to do anything with the throttle body.

The Chevrolet Cavaliers I worked on looked like this…. After disconnecting all the fittings, I believe I just pulled up on it…

Yes my engine looks a lot like that I will take to autozone and see what codes I get then I will post the codes and for the high pressure switch I did get a code for that the air conditioning don’t work when I turn on the air or heat the engine rpms go up and down I’m really not sure what the switch looks like I had a shop want to charge me about $160 to replace it and that mechanic told me he could do it with out removing and freon

If there is a schrader valve behind the switch, then your tech may be able to remove and replace the switch without discharge…

I do not recommend removing throttle bodies to clean them. There are a TON of posts to this very forum about people that have done that very thing only to have issues afterward. Besides, I don’t believe that will have any effect on your hesitation issue. It can’t hurt, but I don’t believe it will help. More info on solving performance issues here.

As for the AC issue, would you mind starting a new topic for that? That way we can keep the database organized. More info on AC here.

I wasn’t going to remove the throttle body I was going to remove what I had to so I could clean it I’m going to autozone to get the codes checked
