I would like to hear your thoughts on UTI. I personally think it is a complete waste of time and suckers people in. I also think they prey off people who are not cut out for this industry, by making them think anything you learn in a school can make you a master technician.

I have been trying to convince someone away from this path and into a local school, but they don’t seem to believe me when I tell him the things I witness with UTI graduates,
One of the kids in my program at a Community College is a UTI graduate… He says he’s gotten a lot more out of the program at the CC and regrets not taking this program first… He feels like he wasted 20 or 30 grand when he could have just spent 5 grand for a program that has a great success rate for employment.
uti and other tv trade schools are like private run institution then…i thought they were community college…shoot…no wonder…i remember before i went to school in bcit, i stop by at private mechanic school…hahahaha…tuition was over 10k for 6 months and shop was just awesome…two hoists and 15-20 guys in the place…

end up at bcit with 4G tuition and passion of other people rub on me…that’s history…i can’t believe people buy such bs schools with 20-30G onto it…you could have bought almost all snapon and mac stuff…pretty good set for apprentice.
        i will say.

You can make $100k in a year… for the DEALER. Then they tell you you screwed the pooch and fire you instead of giving you a raise.

Having lived in the “golden” age of autos, I can remember when 50k was “high” mileage and cars were done at 100k. If you really think about it we are at the point of over engineering. Car last too long and now they are whittling away at them to the point they fail shortly after the warranty expires. If you look at the life of a car then and now the difference is how long it takes to get to 100k mi. 2 maybe 3 years sometimes less than 1.

As far UTI goes those guys get paid to graduate people. All the (reputable) accreditation entities have standards for completed programs and if there are too many non-finishing student they can loose their accreditation. Worked for a while in the college industry and you kind find these thing out. So they will graduate some people that, I’m sure, the faculty would rather send home.

I am a UTI Grad out of Phoenix, AZ. It is definitely an expensive school. no doubt about it. and just like any other school, they want your money, i can admit that. but if you take it upon yourself to learn everything you can, use all of their resources they have, and make sure you are the best of the best, its worth it. There are bad students from every school, and UTI is no exception, but for those who really want it, a school like UTI can help you become a terrific technician. thats just my thoughts.

i heard from people that uti grad had to spend close 20-30G…you could have got really good set of tools for that kind of tuition…i paid 4G for public technical college and it worked out fine for me.

it’s just like you said…it’s really depends on you and your own determination and drive.
