So let me start off by saying I know everyone has weeks like this, so don’t take pitty on me.
1st. 97 awd explorer – makes rattle noise while driving. The front propeller shaft was bad, put it on hoist, see the joint is bad, easy enough right? Well got a new shaft in, it acted like it was in 4lo, almost binding, bring it in and make sure its all tight. Bad oreileys drive shaft? Probably….Well get the new one in and drive it binding still there…it didn’t do this before I took the bad drive shaft out, what the hell? Drove with front shaft out, drove perfect. I brought it back in and quadruple checked the t/c and front diff for the 8th time, all good. Pulled rear shaft – good. Turns out I undid the nuts on trans mount and holy crap! Everything shifted back an inch! OK! GREAT! but why? The frame didn’t look like it had been repaired, the trans looked old, plenty of leaks so I didn’t think it’d been out recently. Well screw it, went and drove it 4 times no further concerns or noises.
2nd. Took me 2 days to figure out a bad starter was blocking crank sensor signal intermittently when cold on a Taurus.
Also should note on the explorer one of the front drive shaft bolts sheared when I took them out. Thank got for small punchs and hammers!
At least I have f ring and pinion to do on a 12 f150 and timing guides on a 6.2!
