I have a 1996 chevy k1500 the other day after driving it a shot distance I noticed that there was coolant on the ground just behind the bumper where the radiator is. the radiator in my truck is less than 4 years old and I just replaced a worn out water pump about 2 months ago. I couldnt find exactly wehre it was coming from and the strange thing is that it would only leak the first time I started it for the day. after that I couldnt get it to leak.
Finally friday morning I pulled my truck into the body shop at school and checked things out. and of course that day it didnt leak. all I could find is a small wet area in the very bottom of the radiator where the plastic tank and core are crimped. I couldnt find anything definitive though, so saturday I went and rented a cooling system pressure tester and put 15lbs in the cooling system which is what my cap is rated for. I also watched erics video about how to use the tool and what it can tell you. and the system held pressure for 10 minutes.
so now I am not sure what to do. its not leaking but if its weak somewhere or could go at anytime I want to fix it, but then the question is if it is the crimps is it worth recrimping? or just replace it? I had a shop put the radiator in about 4 years ago and later I found out through other things they did to my truck that they were not very reputable or proffessional at all. I no longer do ANY business with them and I am not hte only one. so I am thinking if I can prove that it is the radiator for sure I would just replace it with one with a lifetime warranty or all metal one and call it a day. what do you guys think?? thanks
