Post the things that really drive you up a wall. I will start.
Mr. drops his second set of wheels off to have winter tires swapped on and then decides when he comes back to have you put them on. You already flagged the job and got paid for it. Now you have to take your place out of line for a new RO with more work to earn a living off of to pull this jackasses car in, for free, and take his old wheels off and put the ones you just put tires on and then pack up the ones you just took off all for free. All the while watching a nice gravy RO go to the guy in line behind you. It’s even worse when you are actually working on a car and have to stop while you are on a good pace to make money to do it.
I also hate when you are working on a car that is paying out 14 hours of work and it’s a Saturday and you need that 14 hours to make a week and you are down to the wire and someone comes in for a waiter oil change that pays 0.3 and 0.3 for a rotate and you end up not finishing the good paying job for a measly 0.6.

Dirty interiors trash on the floor cups full of cigarette ashes. Candy on the floor. No room in the bay to work slippin and sliding on trans fluid (we do an unbelievable amount of power steering leaks here in Alaska, like 10 a day each). Something new i have to deal with is melting snow cause in florida we didnt have that problem now that Im in Alaska we have to let vehicles thaw and i have water up to my ankles every 2 hours it sucks lol
January 9, 2013 at 1:50 am #490922I’ve got enough to make my computer lock up, so I will just use two words and I’m sure you’ll all agree on this one:
tool thieves
January 9, 2013 at 3:37 am #490973A big pet peeve or mine is other techs leaving crap in my stall when im gone. Im on a rotating schedule with one 5 day vacation a month (badass, i know) I just so happen to be one one now and when I go back tomorrow I plan on having to clean my stall up.
On my last bit of vacation someone managed to splash floor cleaner up onto my box and left permenant stains on the surface on my box. That really pissed me off
January 9, 2013 at 4:40 am #490997funny note to that^^
We had an asep student at my dealer, he was on a whole dofferent level of moron. He’d never want to do anything but stand around or maybe an oil change, anytime actual work was pushed his way he squirmed. Well, one day he double o-rings a filter in another guys stall (he’s on vacation, and he’s a giant f*cking prick) he didn’t clean it up….next day there was about 15 pounds of oil soaked floor dry on the asep kid’s box.
Moral of the story, don’t be an idiot.
January 9, 2013 at 5:19 am #4910091. A rookie service manager who insists that a multi point inspection sheet be filled out on every single car. No exceptions. The 500 mile Silverado thats been on the road less than a week and is back to get his step bars and bedliner installed…..MPVI. The 200,000 mile Colorado thats in for a recall but has butt cheek bald tires, busted windshield, broken door handles, CEL, ABS light, Brake light, Airbag light and barely runs…..MPVI. Or how about the DTS from our preowned lot that I did a full GM Certified 187 point inspection on 3 days ago that is back in the shop to get the wheel hub we ordered for it installed…..MPVI. Waste my time. Multi points can be your friend but a little common sense on when to let it go would be nice. Its not like im gettin paid to be here! 🙂
2. People who leave the stereo volume up at a ridiculous level so when I turn the ignition key I have a heart attack and crap my pants.
3. Managers and Service writers who ask me to do things for free. Maybe im a hardass but I dont feel bad about expecting to get paid for all of the work I do. If you want me to be hourly or salary then I can do all of the little things you need me to from sun up to sun down, but sorry guys if im flatrate im gonna expect diag for declined jobs, im gonna expect a tenth or two for wiper blades and bulbs, and im not going to wash any cars unless you figure out a way to pay me for it.
4. People who blame things on you that clearly are not your fault or arent even happening at all. Im sorry Mr Jones but all I did yesterday was fix your rear defrost grid and fix 2 door handles, I have no idea why your MPG has been cut in half.(lol has it?)
January 9, 2013 at 5:33 am #491016there are alot of things in the dealership i work at that i hate..
1. there service writer thinks he knows more then the tech and tells the customer what HE thinks it is up sells stuff and when the actual tech diag the problem its something totally different and now it becomes our problem
2.having a good paying customer car, then getting taken off of it to do other warranty jobs and stuff and then the service writer has the balls to ask hey is the other car done yet the customer is waiting.
3. When other techs COMPLAIN and think they deserve special treatment and try to pick and choose what job they want to do and leave all the crap work for everyone else
January 9, 2013 at 8:57 am #491070Jiffy Lube Dealerships
I am so sick of waiter oil changes. Got a car on the lift you are going to make money on quick? Oops, here comes 0.3 oil change to screw that up on you. Seriously, it’s called Jiffy Lube, go there instead.
January 9, 2013 at 2:53 pm #491110Maybe people aren’t going to Jiffy lube because of all the hidden cameras that have busted them for not doing what they charge for, right down to replacing the filter and greasing anything during a LOF.
Jiffy Lube also has a new ad campaign claiming to be the good guys and all of us are trying to rob customers blind, so add Jiffy Lube to my pet peeve list. Angry mob anyone?

Fine. Valvoline. Wal*Mart. Midas. Meineke. Monroe. Just stop wasting my time at the dealership. You can rip off the last guys sticker all you want, by looking at your history with us and the filter, I know your loyalty doesn’t exist and you are not a customer worth keeping.
January 10, 2013 at 6:22 am #491401When you as the technician are getting asked every half hour “Are you done yet” by a BACK SHOP manager that doesn’t even have any tech experience. It really aggervates me.
When people leave their ciggerrette ashes in their car and all you can smell is ash. Also, in the summer when they close their windows while the sun is beating down on their car. You have trash, ash and animal odors fermenting in their vehicles and they are looking at you while you pull their vehicle in while you gag and almost vomit because of the stench. As they wonder when is the last time they cleaned out their car.
I dont have a problem with people that smoke. I just dont like the smell.

Your dealer doesnt have lube guys? We have about 8 of them that handle all of the oil changes. Like it or not, those guys tend to upsell quite a bit of work that us flat raters usually get. No complaints here. Sounds like your dealer is run by a couple of neanderthals :stick:

We have 7 techs, all flat rate, and while trying to earn a living, we have to do waiter oil changes and lose our shirt.
January 10, 2013 at 5:57 pm #491592Thats rediculous. By doing that they are just trying to save a few bucks in my opinion. I would definately be looking for other places of employment!
January 11, 2013 at 1:23 am #491684I dont have a problem with people that smoke. I just dont like the smell.[/quote]
I smoke and I even hate it when people do that. They also like to park right in the front row near the bay doors but lock their doors even though they are getting service work. So you have to go get the keys from them and they look at you with this dumbass look since they’re dumbass people and could care less that they are going out of their way to inconvenience you.
To put this in perspective this town I live in has a very low crime rate. Maybe a dozen murders in a decade. Low property theft. I don’t drive beaters and I never take my keys out or lock my doors. Worst thing that ever happened was once some kid grabbed an MP3 player that was on the dash. Left the $500 CD player and $600 amplifier be. I’ve had my motorcycle 5 years now and it sits outside in the summer. Only pull out the key to open the gas cap. Never an incident. So why on earth do they feel the need to pull the keys and lock the doors in broad daylight and in full view of the shop? Nobody is going to do time for their rustbucket 93 LeSabre with 240,000 miles and a stereo so cheap you could damn near buy it with food stamps!
I’m with Ridinred on your situation Spawned, you’re getting the shaft. Always remember there is a reason toolboxes have wheels under them and don’t let management forget that point.

That new ad campaign is complete bullshit, they’re the ones who up sell everything and don’t have a clue, i lasted 2 weeks at a jiffy lube when i was like 18 before i just walked out, couldn’t deal with the morons, I say angry mob, but lets ride our toolboxes and cherry pickers like in the commercial, just saying that part looked fun
