Buy factory service manuals for sure, and buy a Haynes manual to have another point of view, since the Factory goes over board on doing tasks.

I would start with basic things like oil change, spark plugs/wires, air filter, rotating tires, and build up from there. Make sure you have a good repair manual. It’s a good tool for reviewing the job and the torque specs in there are valuable for beginners. Also be sure to have all the tools necessary before starting any job. Preparation and review will help make the job easier and help save time.

Here are some other suggestions. Watch as much videos as possible from YouTube especially ETCG to get a good understanding of what you need to do. In addition, if you are not sure of something research, research, research and ask others for their advice. This site has a great collection of people that bring a lot to the table.

FYI. Man made machine not the other way around. You can conquer any job with the right information and tools.

I would say to get almost annoying to the older techs by asking questions and watching what they do, offer to fetch tools and clean up after pretty much anything they will let you do. And I say the older guys because they know things that won’t be in any manual the little tricks that make life easier for us.

That is a good point. However watch out for the “Older Guy’s ” If you start to move to fast they will also work to block you out. There is the dynamic of people feeling threatened. Just be very cautious. Yes you want to learn and that is a good thing. But it can also work to your disadvantage.

P.S With the internet there is nothing people can hide from you. The days of having to be next to someone to learn is gone if you know how to research independently.
