I would like to change to synthetic transmission fluid in my 2000 Honda Accord LX V6. What type can you recommend? I keep getting bumped back to the Honda brand… but it seems that a Honda brand synthetic ATF does not exist. I will appreciate your response.

I ” highly ” recommend you only run Honda oe trans fluid. Honda transmissions are very picky when it comes to this. same goes for distributors. Hondas only like oe dizzies.

Honda recently reformulated their atf fluid to DW1 which is synthetic.

There have been reports that Mobil 1 has been used with
success. But I’m going to say Honda OE fluid only.

So, when one changes Honda ATF, do the Dealers recommend using the new Honda synthetic rather than what was in it before? Since a lot of fluid normally stays in the torque converter, it would be reassuring to know if the synthetic is completely compatible with the older style….

Here is a link describing the new Honda DW1 from an online Honda store:

                    http://www.handa-accessories.com/atfdw1.html

I called my dealer and basically got the same information that the new DW1 is mixable with the old Z1 Honda ATF fluid.

I mixed the two up in my 08 Civic when I switched to the new stuff about 40k miles ago and had no issues.
