I have a 2000 chrysler neon. The car is good and gets me from point a to point b
I now have 200 000K on it and i was wondering if i should switch to synthetic.
I have always been running 5W30 Castrol oil in it.
Would synthetic help? or make it leak? i heard my previous owner mention when i bought the car at 100 000 k that he heard they leak with synthetic.

A few years back this banging started on cold days which goes away within a few seconds of starting it. My mechanic tells me its just that oil is thicker and takes time before it goes up. I know synthetic oil is much better in cold weather but will it leak in a 2000 Chrysler neon?

Has anyone been running synthetic in those year cars before and how has it been with synthetic?

Switching to synthetic oil at that mileage will do more harm then good.

Is a bible for all automotive fluids. Lots of good info there.

I would not change the grade of oil you put in your engine. The reason why is you dont need to put a high grade oil in a car at that mileage. It would be a waste of money. The only thing I would change is the oil filter. I would not recommend FRAM. From my own personal reasons.

Yes I am the second owner got the car at 100 000Km and it just recently passed the 200 000Km mark I use a Quaker State filter in it. i used to use Fram but I heard way too much bad stuff about it so I switched a couple of years ago.

Upon examining the filter constructions I feel Quaker being far superior to Fram

I have a 99 Saturn SL1 with 225K and recently switched to full synthetic. I feel like it helped the valve rattle when the engine first starts. Synthetic oil is much slicker than conventional oil in my humble opinion. I have repaired sealed bearings by boiling them in full synthetic oil. It maintains viscosity at a higher temperature. BTY the Saturn averages 36 MPG. Not bad for a car with that many miles.

You should get one of these for it. They’re free.
