THEN just the other day I was on the freeway going steady at like 55 mph, then all of a sudden IT FELT like I let off the gas an stepped on it again and does it all the time now. its not a real hard surge it seems to me like its slipping but it shifts fine idles fine it only does it while driving at a steady speed its really frustrating because car funs perfect besides this surging while going at steady speeds please help me

I have a 2000 acura integra ls automatic totally stock I know or sure I don’t have a egr valve now because I looked and there is not one in my car I think the part your talking about in that listing is or a different year or model because I think that other cars use this same engine I have b18b1 but different intake I mean I can try and pull the intake on my car off and look under it but im pretty sure I don’t have one cause I don’t even have the fast idle valve that everyone else can use to fix there surging or idle lucky buggers I mean if im wrong please some pics would be good
June 12, 2013 at 6:22 am #526318I have a question could a exhaust leak cause this? just asking cause im about to do something crazy like take everything off and inspect everything im just that frustrated its like a mosquito that buzzes in your ear and jus wont go away ahahahahah
June 12, 2013 at 6:43 am #526320I sourced another local parts website-according to it if you have a VTEC engine there is NO listing for an EGR valve. If you have a DOHC non VTEC engine then there is a listing for the EGR Valve. A call to an Acura dealer parts department and giving them the VIN should answer the EGR question once and for all and for sure!
June 12, 2013 at 7:16 am #526328ok I called and they said that I SHOULD have one but they cant say for sure because the month or year the car was made I might have parts from another year and they didn’t want to just help me out and tell me what they know they want me to bring it in that’s some bull**** if u ask me so ill just go take another look now b right back
June 12, 2013 at 7:24 am #526332I understand your feeling about the dealer. But did they say they might look at it as a courtesy since THEY can’t tell exactly by the VIN? If they did not say anything about that then you might want to ask if they would look at it as a courtesy since they can’t tell exactly by the VIN. Dealers can be useful-if you use them carefully. Remember-they hope you’ll buy another car from them someday…..maybe. I always try to approach them with my hat in hand and a thin wallet in my words…. gotta go sleep time.
June 12, 2013 at 9:11 am #526344weird question, but are you driving with a large container of water or anything? maybe a hilly environment?
and howww noticeable are we talking here like irritating surges that would be embarrassing if you were taking a girl out on a date or like would only you notice it?
my guess is it has something to do with the engine reaching a happy equilibrium at a constant speed – something relative to air intake or electrical. maybe a lag in timing is causing the compression stroke to fire late – maybe check or clean your fuel injectors.
Or it could even be air intake – something relative to initiating combustion.
I would try driving your car for a *short* time with the throttle body removed (or maybe just air filter) – and then try a fuel injector cleaner.
^ think more along the lines of ruling out problems and isolating a particular issue that either exacerbates or improves your situation.
June 12, 2013 at 9:14 am #526345whoa also just read that you have an integra – I used to have a CR-V (which has the same engine) – on a 2000 I don’t suppose you’re likely to have VTEC, however you very well might. if that’s the case I miiiiggghhhhttt suggest that your valve clearances are having a hard time adjusting at higher RPMs and perhaps only some of them are expanding fully during the “VTEC stage”
^ after reading that aloud I feel like a bit of an idiot but still seems valid. I could be 100% shooting in the dark but could someone verify that I might be onto something?

June 12, 2013 at 9:13 pm #526477Here’s a new route to take:
Call Acura Client service line in Torrance Calif. and ask them to hook you up with one of the manufacturer techs down there at their corporate office. Have your VIN number handy and the mileage.

SparksJune 21, 2013 at 9:50 pm #528339Hey guys im back , had a great vacay ummm back to my car im going to double check everything today and get back to you folks hopefully i can get it right well off to see what i can find
June 22, 2013 at 12:16 pm #528533🙁 🙁 👿 im fustrated, ok i no i shouldn’t just throw parts at it but i felt like since it started after i did a tune up i would redo it so new cap, rotor , plugs and wires all oem parts, i ordered intake gasket just because i no the person who owned it before me never changed it before going to do that tomorrow but i was wondering if n e one any ideas on what else i should look at since im going to be taking the intake off and i no it would be way easier to get to everything once that is out… And does anyone no how to test a tps jus so i can do that and see if its working properly and also how do i get off the two screws that hold down the tps i thought it was a philip screw head but it looks like it is a flat screw head almost looks like a rivet its enough to where i cant even get a vice grip on it any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks
June 22, 2013 at 12:48 pm #528537Before replacing the TPS I would clean the throttle body first. Also don’t replace the intake gasket if there is no leak. It is a waste of time and money. I would spend the money you do have on things that need to be replaced. One thing Eric doesn’t get into on the performance video is the o2 sensors. I just replaced the once on my car. I had so small surge and this corrected the issue. Have you check your timing. with a timing light or check the belt for slack? All most forgot, have you ajusted the valve. Honda recommends this be done yearly.
June 22, 2013 at 11:59 pm #528627Thanks for the advise im planning on doing the timming belt and water pump this weekend ill let you no how that goes but as for the o2sensor witch one would most likely be causing this surge i never thought that would be a problem cuz i thought it would give a cel but again thank you so much for your help and the links i purchased the timming video for b series imma watch it a couple of times b 4 i start mines ill get back when im done
June 23, 2013 at 5:02 am #528654Great to hear you will be doing the timing belt. I had a small surge the type that only I would notice. I stand corrected. I still have it. I think it to be a idle issue more then anything else. I replaced the sensors for CA emissions. I didn’t have a code, but right off the bat noticed the improvement. 90 dollars well spent. They have 200,000 miles on them anyway. Try the valve adjustment too.
