I was in the process of replacing the engine mounts on my 1995 Integra. Everywhere is saying that the oil pan is where you support the engine using a floor jack. When I was in the middle of jacking, I heard a hiss, which I assume came from the oil pan. So I figured that if I kept going, it would destroy my oil pan. Instead of a massive piece of wood, I used a hockey puck, which seemed a lot more promising than the little piece of wood I had. So I just pulled the plug on the job until I got more information on it. It would be appreciated 🙂

When supporting the engine by the pan for mount replacement, you want a somewhat thick piece of wood (or similar) the same size or larger than the contact surface of the pan. This is to spread out the lifting force across the whole surface of the pan to avoid punching a hole or deforming the pan. You also don’t want to lift the car off the ground, just enough lift to relieve the weight off of the mounts.

+1 ^^^^^ You only need to lift the weight off the mount and if you are doing more that one mount I normally will do one side completely first then to the other side and so on.
And I adjust the jack so that it is only living the mount that I am changing.
As cap269 mentioned use a thick piece of wood the size of the pan.

I agree with these two, lol you might’ve just punched a hole in oil pan though haha.

Nah, I jacked it a tiny bit at a time. The hiss was air coming out of the oil pan gasket im sure. I’ve never had any leaks.
