I could not find any info that pertained on your Noise section. The veh is a 94 Dakota 3.9L 140K miles. Clean, no leaks and seemingly well taken care of.
The noise I hear is when the motor is cold and I am climbing a big hill about 1/4 mile away from home. As I hit the steeper part and am increasing speed from 35 up to 55 I get a valve or lifter noise (Tappet?) and there is not the power I should be getting coming from the peddle even if I hit the OD button to kick it down. I assume the loss/lack of power is associated. The noise is loud enough to hear in the closed cab with the radio at normal level.
It doesn’t happen at any other time so I can;t get close enough to pinpoint the exact location of the source/ From inside the cab I say its in the valve train.
I also saw on another site some mention of a valve noise issue TSB from June 27, 1997 that called for a new timing chain and tensioner. I’m hoping that aint it.

Thanks and anyone who has confronted this please let me know how you resolved it.

I will check the timing, as the page said it never occurred to me since it was staring and running. I was thinking after surfing the web that it may be the chain tensioner issue and on ETCG I found a known problem page for the intake Plenum issue.http://www.ericthecarguy.com/kunena/common-problems-pattern-failures/50534-94-02-chrysler-3-9-5-2-5-9-engines-intake-gasket
I’ll check timing first then I’ll have to check if those other two fixes have been done.
Any suggestions for checking that out without taking the motor apart?

According to the link you would be consuming oil. Is this
            the case.

Wow Thank you for engaging like this.
Honestly I don’t know because I bought it in September2013 and had the oil done in October/Novemberish and do not remember if I looked at the stick after they filled it or that I noticed anything off since. Just now the oil is halfway up the ‘safe’ zone cold.

There is no timing procedure for the 94 3.9L V6. Is there some way without taking it all apart to find out if the timing chain fix of adding a tensioner has been done?

The only thing you can check for is timing chain slack which
I sent you. This procedure In this link will help you with the

Thanks. I’ll see if I can get a shop to check it.

I would watch this video to see how to check the timing chain slack:

And I would check this post for a fix which sounds like you’re having

Thanks for that JTF. I am going to get the Fuel Injector Sync tested and then I’ll check the timing chain slop and then I’ll take a look in the TB to see if there is oil puddled up in the corners.

                      Thank you

                        update
                        1. There is oil under the butterfly valve on the TB and the level was lower when hot. I figure this means I have the Plenum problem.
                        2. Tried to get a shop to do the fuel injector sync most did not have the tool, one did but kept asking questions as if wanting to sync it was very unusual. I said nevermind. The dealer wanted $95 to do it. No thanks.
I found this link which I wanted to ask the technicians here if the agreed it was Kosher. The post is by JandJ Auto and describes a manual way to do the fuel injector sync. http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/v6/5461.html

                        3. I haven’t done the timing chain test yet. I will have to remove the shroud and maybe the fan to be able to get to the crank bolt in a position that I can also see the rotor.

                        EDIT
                        I ordered from Hughes Engines
                        Timing cover gasket Set
                        V6 Magnum Plenum kit
                        Timing Chain Tensioner
                        Timing Chain Set 3 keyways
                        Magnum Intake Bolts

I want some new injectors (Hughes told me I need 21 LB) and I am hoping someone on here knows of good ones for a reasonable price.

I added the edit to my previous post and started looking around for Injectors. The spec Hughes Engines said was I need 21Lb injectors.
I saw on a Dodge forum while I was serching where Dodge had gone form using multiple injectors on the 4,6 and 8 Cyl Magnums to using 23Lb injectors in all of them. So the question is can I or should I just get 23Lb injectors or should I stick with 21Lb since I am not modding the motor.

                          thanks

I really do need knowledgeable input here. There is nearly nothing about how to choose Injectors online aside from the Dodge forum post I mentioned.

                            Thank You

If the truck ran fine with what you got why change it. I can’t
see what the real gain would be.

Well that’s just it, it has never run fine since I got it in Sep 2013. I’m going to add the Plenum and timing chain fix along with new MAP and IAC and TV cable. The TPS and all the tuneup parts wires, plugs, cap, rotor, switch plate, as well as Oil sensor, O2 sensor and PCV valve are new since I bought it. I’m hoping the timing chain plenum fix gets it running right. I want to know about what injectors would be best because while I don’t want to do cams or any mods like that I do want maximum performance from the Stock setup and the existing ones look to be OE.
                                EDIT
More research. No dealer or parts dealer knows what the LB’s is on the OE Injector Chrysler Part Number 4554127AB. My dealer wants $135+ each!
They are not cheap the best price is in the $70’s so far unless I go with after market from Hughes where I have to buy 8 new ones for $294.99. I have decided to wait until I do the Plenum to look at what I have in right now and from that make a decision.

Any knowledge or experience you guys have will help.
