Sudden RPM drop when foot off gas pedal 2000 Lude

2000 Prelude Automatic (SS model)
h22A4 engine
M6HA transmission

Is this normal for Auto Ludes? It happens all the time when I’m in stop and go traffic but never when I’m on the highway. The car isn’t downshifting when the RPM drops, it will drop and then quickly stabilize.

ex.
cruising at 40mph, I’m in 4th gear (revving approx. 2200) , as soon as I let off the accelerator the RPM will drop to 1200-1300 and then quickly stabilize, this happens in either D4 or SS mode.

But if I’m cruising at highway speeds (55mph and up) the rpm gradually decreases if I let off the accelerator.

I’m thinking in both cases, it’s the Torque Convertor doing it’s job??

check your tach signal wire at the distributor.

I’m not real familiar with your Prelude transmission operation but as long as it shifts as intended without slipping on acceleration or delayed shifts I wouldn’t be too concerned about anything else.
