35k RPMs!!!! You must have a Wankel engine instead of a Boxer!!!…….. Just kidding… 🙂

Have someone rev up the engine while you listen for sounds… Locate it and take pics if you just see a general area and can’t find the exact location… then post here…

        Cheers!

Wastegate or blowoff valve perhaps? lol but seriously do what TK said. It may be a vacuum leak or it could be a belt driven accessory.

unfortunately it’s not a turbo but thanks I never thought about a belt driven accessory

But ya the first thing I would check would be the waterpump, alternator, powersteering pump, tensioner…you know the belt driven stuff, as well as for vacuum leaks.

One thing i do think is weird is that its worse the more throttle i give it as in if i just rev it it dosent really make the noise or its very faint but if im driving it and get into it then its a loud whistle

I would have to hear the whistle in person to properly diagnose it. Although if you could post a video me and the others could try to diagnose it here.

It’s likely an exhaust leak or like already suggested a belt or pulley noise. I would rule out a vacuum leak as there is little or no vacuum at full throttle.

Do you have an aftermarket intake? Have you altered the air intake in any way? If so this could be the cause as it’s a very common issue with aftermarket intakes. Outside of that I don’t think it would be a vacuum leak. Intake vacuum leaks would be most intense at idle, not at higher RPM’s. I would suspect something in the intake path causing the noise. More info on finding noises here.

No the intake.is.100% stock with a paper filter however the filter is alittle dirtier than expected because its only 4000 miles old but i will try the link and get back with you thanks for everything

If that’s the case I would take a good look at the tubing to see if there’s any damage or loose connections. Also check for any obstructions below the filter. Possibly leaves or other debris that might be lodged there.

i checked out the intake and it seemed to be clear and had no breaks or debris however i did notice a loose connection from the bottom of the filter housing to the fender but i fixed that and didn’t change anything, but i also noticed when i had the housing for the intake apart and i started the car there was a humming noise and ive always noticed this noise but it seems to be getting worse. it is much quieter with the intake all together, and the humming is noticeable in the car when cruising but it sounds like its coming from the passenger side back in the car which is were the gas filler neck is. I also had a friend rev the car when i was looking and im pretty sure now that the actual whistle noise is coming from the area in the photo of the exhaust.

Call Jimmie Higgins of Higgins automotive 704-647-9590. THE Subaru Guru. He’s been doing nothing but since the 70’s. This summer he had the coolest little 350 in his shop. It had a 350cc aircooled in it that looked like a Suzuki 350 twin bike engine in it. He may be able to help. He is one of those guy that you can tell him it’s red and he’ll know what is wrong with it. He is located in Salibury NC and has many hard to find parts. Hope this helps.

Try cleaning the maf sensor. I fixed my aunt’s 2010 outback which had a bit of a loud idle just by doing that. make sure you disconnect the battery before doing it otherwise you will get a bunch of dashlights on. also check out the website that Eric provided for you earlier. most guys will usually use a sound device with 4 different receivers and drive it around to figure out where the noise is coming from. I might also ask if you have any lights on in the dashboard at all?

If that’s the case then perhaps direct your search to the exhaust. You can check for leaks using this method.
