      Hey all,

I bought a 2007 subaru impreza last fall (october i think), and even though it only had 25k mi (39k now), I got the extended warranty because it was only $500 for 3yrs.

I’m not a Subaru expert but the best way to find the source of an oil leak is to clean the area and spray it with leak detection powder (or even athletes foot spray) to see if you can find the source. Another way would be to put dye in the oil and use a special light and glasses to find it’s source. I think it was a good move going for the extended waranty however if it was from an aftermarket company you may have issues but don’t give up your fight sometimes you have to really work them to get them to pay for things. Good luck and keep us posted.

You might do some checking on Briansmobile1’s youtube channel, he seems to do a lot of Subaru work and he may be able to give some info on this as well.

+1 on the briansmobile1 channel. He owns a subaru, and he’s done several videos on ’em. He’s a cool cat too.

                Thanks for the replies.

I’m told that its ‘mostly’ coming from the oil pan gasket, but the head gasket is also seeping some oil. The guy said the pan repair is covered (appt next wed), but the head gasket seepage is relatively common and typically doesn’t progress or need repair. They said they’ll spray it down when they replace the oil pan gasket and I can have it checked again in a month to see if the leak is big enough to be covered under the warranty. Are my expectations too high if I think a head gasket should not leak anything? wtf?

Thanks for the briansmobile suggestion, I will be checking that out for sure.

As a funny side note, the guy at the service desk told me his wife has the same car, same year, with the same head gasket problem and that it hasn’t gotten worse over time. I wonder how many people he has reassured by telling them his wife’s car had the same problem as theirs.

I think it’s BS them telling you to live with a leaking head gasket. I wouldn’t accept that answer.
