Posting for a friend.
2000 Subaru Forester. A friend came to me with complaint of front passenger wheel noise the other day. He thought it was his brakes. I went for a ride with him to listen. It began after a about 6 miles of driving and was off and on sounding like a high pitched whine to squeaking sound and was coming from near the front passenger tire. It did this with driving about 25 mph and not with braking. Upon returning to the house, we took off the passenger tire. His outer CV boot was ripped and had caked everything with grease around it. With seeing that we replaced the CV joint. He drove for a few days with no noise, after driving for an extended duration today, he said the noise came back but not as intense and came back as he was pulling in the drive way. I have not went with him a second time yet to see if has a different noise like brakes or if there is a wheel bearing issue as opposed to the CV joint. Thoughts and other ideas would be appreciated.
