I’m sure we all keep stuff in our vehicles in case of a problem. These are the things that I keep in my vehicle. What do you keep with you?

In addition to most of the items you mentioned, all our vehicles have a leatherman tool in the drivers door pocket, I put them all in with black gorilla tape over the top so they don’t slide around and are always in reach of the driver. Could save your life in the event of an accident and the seatbelt needed to be cut or a window needed to be punched out.

Because my truck came with a nice tool box in the bed, I keep a few things in it, and admittedly most of it from Harbor freight. I keep those roll up wrench sets from HF both metric and SAE, small 12V compressor, tire plug kit, a small floor jack, 4 way lug wrench, cheap screwdriver kit, cheap socket set with most sizes I would need for an 83 S10, spare belts, and extra fluids. Best part is, from Harbor freight, you can get lucky and get those wrench sets on sale for about $8-19 the screwdriver set was around $5 I think. I wouldn’t want to try to make my money with them, but I have had to use some of them already. Wow, I am reading this wondering how in the world does all that fit LOL.

Special during the winter months who can be coold and slippery here at the polar circle in Norway i make sure i am able to resolve as many potential problems as possible on my own. At some points we also got poor phone coverage and relatively long distances between houses. In addition to what you mention i carry a basic “workshop kit”, snow chains, hand winch, spare fuses, tire punkture plugs with compressed air capsules, pocket lights, a small garage jack, ropes, a small assortment of bolts and nuts, a butane/propane mix hurricane burner and extra warm clothes for the kids.

Fortunately it is not often i need any of this, but i has happened a few times – and when it happends it is during the cooldest period (-25 celius for example) and dense snowy weather so i have learned to stay prepared – it takes up some space, but it has saved me from a lot of frustration!

I have however often needed my emergency kit for helping others.

Edit: Ohh.. and by the way, no i do not carry spare engine parts 😛

I watched the video once through and was like . . . no jumper cables!? But then I remembered the Microstart. Maybe I should re-watch that tool review vid, but I would find it difficult to give up my ACTUAL jumper cables. Good topic!

Yeah i agree, a powerpack starter is a great solution but you have to rely on that it is maintained and it capacity. Specialy in coold climate it can be challenging. My experience with battery-based solutions is that it needs to be warmed up inside the jacket for example to get sufficient output. I do not know how that Microstart works when its realy coold outside, but in general coold batteries is not a great power source 😛

I always have a set of tools. Engine oil (1-liter bottle), some fluids for radiator and a duct tape.
Once I had an accident when an upper hose of radiator ripped and started liking. Good thing it happened at the traffic light. I fixed with a piece of a plastic bag wrapped around the hose and duct tape. And additionally during winter I also have a shovel in my trunk. Often drive off road. Once I had to walk almost 7 km to the closest village to borrow a shovel 😆

                • Portable Aluminum shovel
                • Hand crank flashlight
                • Portable 12V air compressor

I carry a lot of stuff, but some of it is stuff that comes in handy at work. I carry a duffle bag full of car stuff.

Inside: Coolant hose, clamps, Power inverter, Flashlight, Mini Air compressor, Gloves, Extra oil, Funnel, tow straps, ratchet straps, jumper cables, 12volt spotlight, 8awg cable, small first aid kit and a can of PB blaster.

I also have some items that I keep in the Jeep that are nice to have for work, but double as emergency stuff.

                  Like

                  – 160pc Craftsman ratchet set
-Tool bag, (contains, soldering iron, volt meter, and other electrical tools)

I also keep a 1 gallon gas can in the back, Sometimes on trips I fill it.

Some people might see me as crazy, but there is really no problems carrying this stuff, and its nice to have for stuff other than just emergency.

I drive an SUV, so its not like I’m starving for room in the trunk. And Other than the misc Items. Its just a duffle bag.
